Sightseeing

Thanks to its great location, our guests can choose from a variety of activities.

One of the most liked tourist spot is Korcula, which can be reached in a quick 15 minute boat-ride from our guest house, and you’ll be right in the heart of the old town. Korcula is famous for its medieval atmosphere, nightlife and good restaurants.

If you would like to take a longer sea ride and search for great treasures at the market, or explore lovely shops, then take a ferry from Korcula to Split and enjoy the Croatian city life. In the high season, a ferry travels to Split and back regularly, making it s good one-day adventure with no need to move accommodation.

Most of the island of Mljet is national park, so it is ideal for guests who like taking long walk and long bicycle rides. A ferry at the beginning of the peninsula takes the tourists to the island and brings them back the same day. There is no car traffic on Mljet, so you can be sure to enjoy clean air and untouched nature.

Trpanj lays about 15 km from Orebic. It is a sweet little town known for its ferry, however, in the main season bars and restaurants also provide tourists with an enjoyable experience.

Dubrovnik, which rightfully earned a world famous reputation for its beauty, is in an accessible distance from us – about 100 km. So if you want to explore the town, enjoy a lovely dinner in a dimly lit narrow street in the old town or just want to peruse the shops and cafés, you can easily get there by car. The night atmosphere there is unbeatable: pageantries, guard changing, lit candles, street music. Not to mention the beauty of the town which speaks for itself. As it can be reached from us by car easily, you can save on the expensive Dubrovnik lodgment and still enjoy what the city can offer.

On the way to Dubrovnik visit Ston, famous for its salt. You can take home some really good sea salt and walk on the big wall surrounding the city – the second longest wall after the Great Wall of China.

If you like sea food and you are already on your way to Dubrovnik or Ston, stop at the world famous oyster and black mussels farm about 20 minutes from us. In its tiny restaurant you can taste award winning oysters (they received first prize in Europe).

If you are looking for top quality wines, cheese and an extraordinary dinner, then the Villa owner can take you to a Croatian host who was already served John Malkovich and Angelina Jolie.

But you don’t need to get in the car to find good restaurants because Orebic has plenty of them. The owner is happy to advise you of the best local eateries.

Playground

Children: Orebic is ideal for families with children. It has a child-friendly atmosphere and setting with a sandy beach. In addition, the only playground of Orebic can be found right in front of us, about one minute walk.

Activities and sport activities

While it is great to go on trips, do some sightseeing and visit cities, don’t forget the most important thing – the beach! There are plenty of nice beaches throughout the two sides of the peninsula. These can be reached within a few minutes by foot or car-ride from our guesthouse and cater to different desires.

  • The beach of Orebic is easy to reach by foot in a couple of minutes. It is long and there is a sandy and a pebbly part of it. Kids can have even more fun, because they can rent bananas, rings and jet-skis. No need to carry down sandwiches and drinks, as there are plenty of places to buy food, drinks and coffees.
  • One of the most adored beaches is Divna, which is located right on the other side of the peninsula. Here you can find peace, clear water, slowly deepening white pebbly shores and a beautiful panorama.
  • World famous is Viganj, situated 5 kms from Orebic. It is a surf paradise. Every year it hosts international surf competitions, last year the world championship was held here. Don’t worry if you’re a beginner, there are courses for adventurous people who would like to “dive into” the art of wind surfing and kiting.
  • Divers have no need to worry neither, because the main diving base is very close to us, in Mokalo. On the shore of this little place there is a shipwreck under water, which is a good sight not only for divers, but for snorkelers too.
  • Lots of my guests found the peace they were searching for at the very end of the peninsula, in Loviste. This little village is inviting us with its warm, quiet bays, hidden from the world, spirit-awaking atmosphere, small colorful shells and pebbles and great restaurants.

Those who’d rather spend their time dry will find plenty of forest routes on flat and hilly area, and even the 1000 meter mountain soaring right behind us can be hiked in a day. After about 4 hours of walking, you will have an unforgettable experience. The spinal cords of the mountains curve before your eyes in such artistic beauty that it will take your breath away. We wonder at its beauty each time we see it.

The bikers will also find challenging terrain. There are steep roads traversing hills, asphalt and dirt roads with beautiful panoramas at the peaks which will makes you forget how tired your body is. Good quality, long and challenging roads are waiting for the trained, adventure-seeking bikers.

In case you left all your sport gear back home, and you don’t feel like renting a kayak either, you will find great roads for running too.

Note from the owner: I must admit, even though I tried surfing and diving, and I go bicycling, swimming and running on a regular basis, my most favorite activity is taking long walks accompanied by my dog. There is nothing more beautiful than walking in good weather, breathing fresh air and taking in a beautiful landscape. Behind us a huge mountain tries to punch the sky and in front us tiny islands beam in sunlight, glittering like lost pearls, making us forget our everyday troubles.

Kitchen and eating

There is one kitchen on each floor which should be shared by the guests of three rooms. As the kitchens are very well equipped, you won’t have any problems. Gas-range, saucepans, plates, tableware, coffee percolator, water-heater are in the kitchens. The refrigerators are in the rooms. If you wish to do some grilling / barbequing or cook a good stew, you can do it in the garden where a special cooking area is set up. In case you don’t want to cook at all, but would rather spend your meals in a nearby restaurant, it can be arranged as we are already in contact with such a restaurant. You can enjoy your breakfast and dinner in a cozy little restaurant by the sea at a very good price only a couple of minutes walk from the Villa.

Travelling

The unique setting advantage of Orebic is that while having splendid landscape and natural beauties, it is situated on a peninsula, not an island. Thus you are not tied to the timetable of the ferry, nor the cost, and the stress of missing it. You can come and go as you please.

The Croatian highway runs all the way till Ploce, so in case you come on the highway you will have a comfortable and quick ride. However, it is not cheap, about 60 euro plus the extra cost of fuel if it’s not directly your route heighten the costs. (Note from owner: I came on the highway many times, and also through Bosnia and Serbia. From my town, Szeged, to Orebic, the shortest and cheapest way is through Bosnia and Serbia which costs only a full tank of gas. However, as the guests are coming from different places, I advise the highway if you want a comfortable ride and don’t mind the extra costs. Also, the possibility of getting lost is much lower on the highway than through the cities and unknown places. In addition, if you take the ferry from Ploce to Trpanj, you save driving most of the Peljesac peninsula.)

Most important! Don’t rely solely on your GPS!!! Even if the newest maps are uploaded on it there is still a high chance of getting lost a couple of times because these regions are not that well mapped out. This has cost guests many hours and extra kilometers in the past. Even though we live in the age of computers, always bring a map – it can’t hurt.

Timing, weather

Great weather and warm water can be guaranteed during 4 months of the year (June, July, August, September) although usually May and October brings beautiful weather too. Choose your timing depending on your plans. The water is just as warm in June as in August so it shouldn’t be a deciding factor. (It might come as a surprise, but the water is usually the warmest at the beginning of the season, in June.) The months before and after the season are calmer, more peaceful, less hot, so those who prefer peace and harmony with lovely water and a slight breeze should choose June and September. Those who want to go out, enjoy nightlife and love hot weather will be the happiest in July and August. Of course, Orebic is a small town, so nightlife here isn’t the same as city nightlife. So in a way it is quiet even in the high season. People with dogs should definitely think about the before and after season period, even March and April. As the owner spends one month in Orebic in Spring, she can arrange her travelling in a way that Spring guests can enjoy total peace, crystal clear sea water (already ideal for dogs to swim) and sparkling sunshine.

Dogs

The house is dog friendly, but those guests who don’t really like our four-legged friends don’t have to worry either because the guests coming with dogs will be in a separate part of the house. We don’t allow dogs in the very decorative rooms so people who have fur allergies need not worry. Guests coming with dogs are expected to practice good dog owner etiquette, thus no dogs are allowed to run around the house unsupervised. Also, the garden around the house is not for the dogs, so dogs must be taken outside for their business and exercise. There are plenty of green places around within reachable distance. For dogs we charge 5 euro/night.
